Every evening on a cruise, the sun sets. And if you are wise, you will stop what you are doing to watch it. Better still if you do it with champagne in hand, or a cocktail, or simply a glass of water that tastes clearer when the light turns orange.
The ritual is meditation
Sunset at sea is different than sunset on land. The light lives longer. The colors are more saturated. And because you are moving, the sunset moves with you — the whole horizon becomes a canvas.

How to do it right
Find a quiet spot on deck. Arrive five minutes before you think the sun will set. Stay for five minutes after. Notice how the light changes the ship, the water, the other passengers. Notice how it changes you.
The best part of cruise travel is not the ports. It is the hours between them. This is when you remember why you came.
